What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health

Schedule: Monday-Friday 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM

Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.

Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes.

Job Summary

The Sr. Pharmacy Technician is responsible for coordinating pharmacy operations and distribution activities to ensure the Department provides optimal service on a daily basis. The Sr. Technician reports to the Pharmacy Supervisor and assists with supervision on a daily basis. This job assists with pharmacy automation and supports training and development for all pharmacy staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Pharmacy Manager with daily supervision and direction of Pharmacy Technicians in accordance with Department and organization policies. Prepares time and attendance records, makes staffing adjustments, and provides regular performance evaluations and coaching for supervised staff.

  • Maintains proper inventory control and storage of medications, including oversight of drug shortage management, expired inventory audits, and drug recall management. On a monthly basis, maintains all necessary documentation, inspections, and audits to ensure the Pharmacy’s compliance with State BOP requirements. Reports significant issues to Pharmacy Manager and assists in determining resolutions.

  • Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment. Fills physician orders, medication surgical kits, medication carts, stock requisitions and automated dispensing system refill lists accurately.

  • Coordinates development, implementation, and maintenance of medication distribution systems in daily pharmacy operations and ensures pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner. Manages pharmacy automation systems to increase efficiency and accuracy of dispensation.

  • Manages drug and supplies purchasing in accordance with GPO bids and Cardinal Health best practices for smaller pharmacy operations. Manages purchasing budget and uses forecasts of patient demands to maintain pay levels of inventory and anticipate any shortages. Reports variances in budget and patient demand to Pharmacy Manager.

  • Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques including aseptic manipulations, garbing procedures, and aseptic work practices

  • Directs the orientation, training, and ongoing development of all pharmacy staff. Educates supervised staff on changes to policies and procedures.

  • Addresses complex issues related to automation processes, verification of orders, and preparation of medications for customers. Coordinates with patient care facilities as necessary to troubleshoot issues and assists Pharmacy Technicians with irregular or complex tasks.


Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred

  • Must be a registered pharmacy technician in the state of TN

  • 4+ years of pharmacy technician experience, preferred

  • High school degree or equivalent preferred

  • Previous experience CPR+ highly preferred

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Anticipated hourly range: $22.50 per hour -$28.98 per hour
