Mold Maker / Service Technician - 12 Hour Nights

The schedule for this role is 12- hour nights, from 6:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m., Week 1 - 36 hours, Week 2 - 48 hours
Week 1: ON Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday

Week 2: ON Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday

What Machine Operation contributes to Cardinal Health

Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.

  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications
  • determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup
  • uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds
  • measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining
  • fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.


  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, service, repair, and maintain plastic injection molds and hot runner systems used in medical supply manufacturing
  • Collaborate respectfully with team members and coworkers; and mentor apprentices and less experienced technicians
  • Manufacture parts and components to print specifications using manual and CNC machinery
  • Develop innovative solutions to address root cause findings
  • Complete required documentation accurately and on time
  • Maintain spare part inventories for mold repairs and maintenance
  • Schedule, follow up, and work with outside tool shops and vendors to complete mold repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Report service status and provide up-dates to the Tool Room Lead or designate
  • Communicate repair status between shifts
  • Modify molds and fixtures as directed to reduce down time, increase productivity, control cost, and prevent failure


  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years related work experience and/or training required
  • Certified mold maker preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of measuring equipment, surface grinders, lathe machines, mills, standard EDMs, and drill presses
  • Experience reading tooling blueprint and schematics
  • Experience working independently from written or verbal instructions
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to operate a forklift and overhead hoist
