What Warehouse Operations contributes to Cardinal Health

Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning.

Warehouse Operations is responsible for performing/controlling a combination of manual or automated tasks necessary for the receipt, storage, and shipment of product. This may include functions of receiving, picking, packing, shipping, staging, transporting, storage, delivery, etc. Also responsible for the efficient flow of products from the point of product receipt from vendors to the shipment of products (via prescribed service parameters) to a variety of internal and external customers.

Job Summary

The primary purpose of the Lead Associate, Warehouse Operations is to support the Warehouse Supervisor through either inbound or outbound management of the warehouse floor and to facilitate effective warehouse operations through direction of warehouse staff, in accordance with operational priorities. In addition, this job assists in coordination of receipt of shipments and scheduling of incoming trucks, as well as making internal appointments. This job also delegates work among the warehouse staff and produces reports on workforce productivity and quality. The Lead Associate, Warehouse Operations also communicates with customers and transportation partners outside the warehouse to communicate disruptions, provide updates on delivery timeframes and ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Outbound Load Planning: Use the warehouse Management System (WMS) to plan and execute outbound loads efficiently.
  • Transportation Coordination: Partner with internal and external transportation teams to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery of shipments.
  • Yard Management: Oversee and optimize the use of the trucking yard, utilizing industry-leading yard management systems to ensure smooth operations.

  • Inbound Delivery Management: Interface with inbound (IB) trailer deliveries and create accurate receiving appointments for warehouse operations.

  • Container and Trailer Reporting: Track and report empty ocean containers and over-the-road (OTR) trailers to carriers promptly.

  • Documentation and Communication: Maintain accurate records of transportation schedules, delivery appointments, and load planning activities. Communicate updates and changes effectively to all relevant stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving: Address any transportation or yard management issues proactively, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

  • Assists in inbound and outbound workload forecasting through historical and trend analysis to determine how labor should be utilized.


Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience, preferred
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred
