What Warehouse Operations contributes to Cardinal Health
Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning.
Warehouse Operations is responsible for performing/controlling a combination of manual or automated tasks necessary for the receipt, storage, and shipment of product. This may include functions of receiving, picking, packing, shipping, staging, transporting, storage, delivery, etc. Also responsible for the efficient flow of products from the point of product receipt from vendors to the shipment of products (via prescribed service parameters) to a variety of internal and external customers.

Job Summary
The Transportation Planner applies broad knowledge to ensure the integrity, quality, and accuracy of the facility’s transportation plans, which can include but is not limited to: controlling order release schedules to the warehouse, building daily route schedules, optimizing orders, and monitoring carrier cost and performance. The Transportation Planner executes Transportation’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) and responds effectively to complex scenarios to ensure customers receive their orders.
Responsibilities
Reviews and optimizes customer orders in WMS before releasing orders to warehouse for picking. Optimization includes consideration for order weight, cube and transportation route density.
Makes decision to shifts orders between commercial carriers and private fleet based on cost and service considerations.
Coordinate daily execution of final mile shipments from Distribution center to customers.
Works with Fleet Manager to confirm routes, driver availability and their hours of service, along with equipment availability.
Collaborates with transportation team to maintain and confirm customer delivery requirements.
Reviews emergency orders and ensure all tickets are closed out each day.
Ensure all rush orders flow are processed according to standard operating procedure
Follows transportation route guide to cover additional transportation capacity needs
Follows up on customer order tracking requests
Coordinates customer returns
Drive efficiency and assist in budget accountability, identifies savings opportunities
Qualifications
2-4 years of related experience preferred
2 years of transportation experience preferred
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and follow up skills
Prior experience working with WMS and TMS systems preferred

Works with limited supervision
Work occasionally involves review of output by work lead or supervisor
May provide general guidance or technical assistance to less experienced team members
Overtime may be required as needed
Support warehouse operations as needed
