What Tooling Metrology contributes to Cardinal Health
Responsible for cost of production and maintenance activities including process improvement, supply chain management, quality assurance, employee safety and engagement, and environmental commitment.
Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Responsibilities
- Utilize metrology equipment to measure injection molded and mold related components such as cavities and cores, and molded material to support first article inspections, process validations and material qualifications
- Provide metrology documentation to support measurements. Monitors trends in prices, sources, availability and recommends necessary action to ensure a continued flow of materials to meet production requirements
- Seeks and recommends cost savings opportunities based on material substitution, competitive sources, improved systems, or new items
- Evaluates new vendors for price, product, quality, and service capabilities
- Develops and maintains supplier relationships and serves as a liaison between suppliers and tool room resources
- Assists in coordinating trials on production lines with Engineering and Manufacturing
- Provide inventory control support by managing negative inventories, analyze and evaluate monthly spare part inventories, and investigate and resolve all inventory discrepancies in their area of responsibility
- Actively participate in all lean manufacturing initiatives for schedules, component supplies, and purchased items for the tool room
Qualifications
- Basic Metrology knowledge
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, preferred
- 4-5 years medical device manufacturing related experience, preferred
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred
- Certificate from college or technical school (machinist, engineering technology) preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, preferred
- Knowledge of BPCS or related MRP Systems, preferred
- Working Knowledge of GMP and ISO Practices, preferred

Anticipated hourly range: $20.90 - $33.00 per hour based on experience
