Legal provides the company with strategic, proactive, practical and cost-effective legal advice and services in order to protect the organization's assets, operations and reputation. This function provides legal counsel related to commercial transactions, labor and employment, compliance, corporate matters, data privacy, intellectual property, regulatory law, and litigation management, among other areas. Legal also partners with business leaders to identify risks, support strategic business initiatives, and promote a culture of integrity and compliance.
Labor & Employment provides legal advice, counsel, and services in the areas of labor and employment law across the organization. This role partners closely with Human Resources, Employee Relations professionals, Compliance, and business leaders throughout Latin America to identify legal risks, develop practical solutions, and ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and company policies. The role also provides broader legal support across commercial, compliance, corporate, privacy, and other legal matters as business needs require.
The Senior Legal Counsel, Employment & Labor Latin America serves as the primary legal partner for labor and employment matters across multiple jurisdictions in the region. This role provides strategic legal guidance and risk mitigation advice to Human Resources and business leaders on a broad range of employment-related matters, while also supporting commercial contracting, compliance initiatives, data privacy matters, disputes, and other corporate legal needs.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary legal advisor to Human Resources, Employee Relations, and business leaders on labor and employment matters across Latin America.
Provide proactive legal advice and counseling on a variety of legal issues and business initiatives, including assessment of legal risks and recommended mitigation strategies.
Advise on employee relations matters, investigations, terminations, restructurings, and other employment-related issues.
Support HR and management in ensuring compliance with labor, employment, occupational health and safety, and related requirements.
Review, draft, negotiate, and advise on commercial agreements with customers, vendors, suppliers, consultants, and other third parties.
Promote and support ethics and compliance programs, investigations, privacy, and corporate legal initiatives.
Collaborate with internal and external counsel to manage claims, disputes, proceedings, and litigation matters.
Support other legal matters and projects as assigned based on evolving business needs.
Qualifications
Law degree and admission to practice law in at least one Latin American jurisdiction.
8-12 years of relevant legal experience, preferably including significant in-house and/or top-tier law firm experience.
Fluent English and Spanish required; working proficiency in Portuguese is considered a strong asset.
Deep expertise in Mexican labor and employment law is required, with proven experience advising multinational companies on complex employment matters and risk mitigation strategies.
Experience supporting labor and employment matters in other Latin American jurisdictions is highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience supporting multinational organizations and partnering directly with Human Resources and business leadership.
Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements.
Familiarity with compliance, internal investigations, data privacy, and corporate legal matters.
Ability to work effectively across multiple countries, cultures, and stakeholder groups.
