Pharmacy Operations Manager

Job Description:

The Pharmacy Operations Manager assists the Pharmacy Director in running and maintaining the pharmacy and pharmacy programs, as well as supervising all pharmacy staff and providing day-to-day operational support to the pharmacy program. Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Director, the Pharmacy Operations Manager will maintain an engaged, productive team through strong leadership, demonstrating initiative, and leading by example. This individual will be accountable for developing and maintaining practices which adhere to state and federal regulations, evaluating and supporting facility quality and compliance, developing and growing the team, and ensuring timely execution of facility and departmental goals.

The position is based in Lewisville, TX.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Encourage professionalism, productivity, performance, and efficiency of all pharmacy staff.
  • Strive to enhance customer care and satisfaction through developing proper staffing for operations, maintaining value-added policies, procedures, and protocols for facility, and encouraging coaching/developing staff.
  • Develop short and long term pharmacy strategic goals for pharmacy program development.
  • Create, maintain, update and enforce lean pharmacy standards, and CAH Operating Model in pharmacy workflow. Oversee records of all transactions of the pharmacy that are necessary to ensure adequate control and accountability for all drugs as required by applicable state and federal laws.
  • Ensure facility operations align with applicable federal and state regulations in order to meet all inspection and other requirements governing pharmacy operations.
  • Drive quality efforts throughout the fulfillment center facility and partner with operations management to review processes regularly to ensure regulatory compliance. 
  • Initiate, implement, and embrace continuous quality improvement projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Director.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
  • Active/Good Standing Pharmacist license in domicile state
  • Five or more years Staff Pharmacist experience or three years Pharmacist in Charge experience
  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations surrounding pharmacy practices and patient safety
  • Experience working in high-volume mail order environment
  • Experience recruiting, interviewing, and hiring Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Interns
  • Three or more years Pharmacist Preceptor experience
  • Willingness to work varying schedules
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead teams
  • Excellent communication skills with all points of contact including team members and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong commitment to working with customers and staff from a wide range of ethnic, economic, cultural and social backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of central fill facility capabilities and requirements
  • Knowledge of facility inspection and licensing process in domicile state
  • MBA or Lean Six Sigma training
  • Experience with PBM, contracting, and/or multi-state licenses
  • Mindset for innovation
  • Five or more years Pharmacist in Charge experience
  • Experience managing high-volume, highly-automated pharmacies
  • Experience managing 30+ employees (including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Interns)
  • Extensive experience developing and managing pharmacy fulfillment center workflows
  • Active/Good Standing License in all states requiring Non-resident PIC license
  • Experience communicating with and presenting to Boards of Pharmacy and other regulatory bodies
  •  Knowledge of facility inspection and licensing process in Non-Resident states
