What a Manufacturing Management contributes to Cardinal Health

Manufacturing Management is responsible for strategic oversight and leadership direction within the Manufacturing function.

Accountabilities in this role

This key leadership position is responsible for all device manufacturing activities for the Norfolk, NE site. These responsibilities include leadership for device production, product sterilization, manufacturing product quality and regulatory compliance, new product development support, production engineering support and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.  In addition, the incumbent will work very closely with the functional support teams in Sourcing, Human Resources, Finance, Operational Excellence and Engineering, and Supply Chain.

  • Responsible for planning, procurement, manufacturing engineering, production, and maintenance activities to ensure product quality, customer service, and cost objectives are met.
  • Development and deployment of strategic manufacturing plans that includes manufacturing site capacity, technology, process capability/controls, and talent optimization that is aligned with operations objectives, quality objectives, product requirements, and business strategies.
  • Ensure proactive engagement and representation of Manufacturing during product development cycles to ensure future products meet quality, service, and cost objectives. Development and deployment of a manufacturing plan that includes manufacturing site capacity, technology, process capability/controls, and talent optimization that is aligned with operations objectives, quality objectives, product requirements and business strategies.
  • Work in close collaboration and partnership with Business Unit General Managers, Finance/IT, Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain and Product Development organizations to optimize overall operational excellence.
  • Participates with peers in the formulation of overall direction, processes, systems and talent development for the Patient Recover Norfolk Operations organization.
  • Management and measurement of site level inventory, including planning, procurement, warehouse, production material flow, scrap, and obsolescence to meet related objectives.
  • Provide leadership of EHS program development, execution, and compliance to internal policies and external regulations for respective sites.
  • Responsible for operations and customer facing functions for sterilization services of the Nursing Care sites to meet quality, service, and cost objectives.


  • B.S. in Engineering or a related technical discipline with an understanding of product design, manufacturing, supply chain, and distribution processes.
  • Master’s degree in business or science or MBA preferred
  • 10 years of manufacturing experience, with 7 years of manufacturing leadership.
  • 5 years manufacturing experience in a regulated industry.
  • Experience working within medical device manufacturing systems or other highly regulated industries preferred
  • Six Sigma/Operational Excellence experience
  • Demonstrated competency in managing large, complex budgets and resources, with the ability to understand the financial implications of leading a manufacturing function.
  • Demonstrated leadership of senior people and complex projects, with a strong track record of leading within a highly matrix organization.
  • Results-oriented with strong planning and execution skills. Strong influence management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategy in a highly competitive business environment.
  • Willingness and ability to institute and navigate change.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to manufacturing locations.
