What Supply Chain Inventory/Purchasing contributes to Cardinal Health

Supply Chain Inventory/Purchasing provides a premier level of service to our customers with optimal levels of inventory by collaborating with our internal and external partners to purchase pharmaceutical and medical products from our Supplier partners. Along with our Supplier partners, the team works with Sourcing, Customer Service, Finance, DC Operations, and Sales to ensure our customers’ needs are met, our processes are efficient, supplier performance is evaluated, and products arrive in the right place, at the right cost, at the right time and in the right quantities.

Accountabilities in this role

  • Ensure effective management of team including coordination of daily activities, work schedules, and workload.
  • Observe and evaluate job performance of team members and provide coaching and on-going development.
  • Participate in recruiting and interviewing of team members.
  • Makes recommendations to management concerning process improvements and leads this work to improve department performance and productivity.
  • Responsible for managing to key metrics and gather/evaluate data to analyze variances.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for key responsibilities of the team and provide training.
  • Independently manage project milestones to completion to improve department workflow.
  • Assist in resolving issues that are escalated by stakeholders; manufacturers, sourcing, customers, and employees.
  • Responsible for Supply Chain Optimization program activities and stakeholders; buyers, suppliers, SCO team, and DCs involved.
    • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the SCO program are being worked on accurately and efficiently (properly staffed and processes are efficient).
    • Accountable for all SOPs and process metrics.
    • Responsible for understanding current process and improving process for future.
    • Single point of contact for the Hub FDCs.


  • Bachelor degree, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of Supply Chain experience.
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities, competing tasks/demands, and delegate effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence internal and external customers to get results.
  • Demonstrated poise and ease when interacting with all levels of the organization.
  • Understands the needs of customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, active listening and ability to adapt style to understand what each team member needs to succeed.
  • Ability to assess a situation and understand when a process should be improved and could be automated and who to involve to make this improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools; Excel, Access, Business Objects, Word, and PPT.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven ability to analyze data trends with the use of reporting tools (ex. Business Objects, Access) and initiate action from findings.
  • Experience with purchasing systems preferred (SCORE, SAP, Manhattan WMS, etc.).
  • Quick to pick up and understand new technologies.
