What Software Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

Software Engineering is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and supporting applications, systems and IT products required to achieve the company's business objectives.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of software development techniques and fluency in software languages and application programming interfaces.
  • Demonstrates general understanding of hardware/software platforms including but not limited to operating systems, databases, application servers, web servers and integration technologies.
  • Plans and executes system implementations that ensure success and minimize risk of system outages or other negative production impacts.
  • Demonstrates conceptual knowledge of architecture standards and database and operating systems.
  • Demonstrates problem solving ability that allows for effective and timely resolution of system issues including but not limited to production outages.
  • Analyzes production system operations using tools such as monitoring, capacity analysis and outage root cause analysis to identify and drive change that ensures continuous improvement in system stability and performance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of software development, life cycle, modeling of business processes, application design patterns, business/functional documents. Estimates to high level business requirements and provide options analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide guidance to team responsible for design, development and solution delivery on projects involving Java Platform Technologies.
  • Day to day leadership, oversight of a diverse technical team composed of employees and contract staff.
  • Responsible for team forecast, provide estimates for project, release activities. Actively participate and manage project, release planning & build activities.
  • Responsible for tracking, governing development best practices, standards. Ensures the governance processes are strictly followed on project delivery.
  • Effectively listens, Escalates issues to Management, Project stakeholders timely. Provides recommendations keeping in consideration the risk, impact to the Project(s) and Enterprise.
  • Partners with peer teams and spearheads efforts that enable efficiency, speed and agility on processes and technology (Dev Ops, Continuous Integration, Test Automation).
  • Work with IT clients, Project Teams, Functional Partners and Development staff in bridging gaps with communications on process adherence, technical issues and development standards.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to team of SME’s from technical and individual career development.
  • Provide support on operational issues with critical Incidents, issue resolution, and RCA.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in IT development or related experience.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of software development processes and supporting tools (DevOps, Agile).
  • Prior working experience or background as Administrator with Middleware Platform Technologies is a plus – Websphere, Tomcat, JBoss, PCF, Oracle Weblogic.
  • Relationship building skills and prior experience working in a matrix organization.
  • Provides guidance, mentor other engineers in the team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, presentation and team collaboration skills.
