Department Overview:

Technical Architecture is a team within the Enterprise Architecture organization at Cardinal Health that historically has been providing design and guidance to projects primarily with an infrastructure and integration focus.

We work closely with Solution Owners, Project managers, and Business and Application SMEs to design the technology aspects of projects to continually move the business forward utilizing Cloud Native design and enabling DevOps. Our team is expanding to include not only those areas, but application, data, and security expertise as well.

Accountabilities in this role

The person will be a technical lead with key responsibilities in three areas:

Architecting technology solutions based on Cardinal Health Enterprise Standards and Reference Architectures to meet specific company business requirements as part of project implementation. As Solution Architect, work closely with the application teams and developers in the case of custom applications to architect the solutions to make use of new and innovative technologies helping the business to improve and build competitive advantage. Act as mentor to team mates and Technical Architects helping build a well- rounded understanding and approach to custom app development focusing on and driving to open source technologies and cloud native concepts and solutions.

Additional Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As a key member of the Enterprise Architecture Solution Architecture team, you will be responsible for evaluating project requirements and translating those requirements into detailed designs that achieve project goals.
  • Analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing infrastructure
  • Identify necessary infrastructure components (hardware/software)
  • Provide size estimates
  • Design solution to optimize cost to meet project requirements
  • Work closely with Project Manager, project technical resources, external vendor partners, Business Partner, Solution Owner and Steering Committee to ensure smooth project implementation.
  • Provide guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to technical SMEs.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture teams to implement strategic Enterprise solutions.
  • Stay on top of industry changes and drive innovation.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with Java application development life cycle.
  • Prior experience with IT enterprise architecture or willingness to learn architecture and work in this space
  • 6-10 years’ experience in IT industry.

Any of the following is a major plush but not required.

  • Experience and working knowledge of External Cloud technologies, specifically Amazon AWS. Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud experience also beneficial.
  • Good understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery concepts and design methodology
  • Working knowledge of networking / distributed computing concepts and technologies.
  • Working knowledge of proxy and web services.
  • Experience with SharePoint, JIRA and other collaboration and WIKI tools.
