Why Is This Role Critical?

Senior Business Intelligence Systems Analysts (Sr. BI SA) have the overall responsibility of being the liaison and advocate for the end users of the Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Solutions. They work closely with users to understand the current state of information availability in the enterprise and then identify future needs based on their analysis of business requirements, current state environments, gap analysis, future state warehousing implementation. The Sr. BI SA must understand the business functional area (e.g., Sales, Finance, Clinical Operations, Managed Care, etc.) to effectively work with users. BI SAs identify the source systems and data required in the Data Warehouse environment to meet the users’ current and potential future needs. This role also performs analysis to identify data gaps and quality issues. They work closely with the Data Warehouse development team to ensure user requirements and issues are being addressed while controlling scope. The Sr. BI SA must have a thorough understanding of ETL processing methods, underlying Data Warehouse data models, security, and capabilities of the front-end delivery products to convey the “Art of the Possible.” They are responsible for overall coordination of User Acceptance Testing and Training. The Sr. BI SA is responsible for ensuring that the final BI implementation will meet the user expectations.

What you will be accountable for….

  • Understanding the value in new business requests: “Why is this important?”, “What is the benefit?”
  • Building project backlogs that clearly communicate the “what” and value of a request to the technical delivery owners
  • Driving business centric collaboration with stakeholders, business users, and technical solution providers to understand business needs.
  • Evaluating business processes and leading solution definition (workflow, technology, data, etc.) to support business goals and initiatives.
  • Facilitating the project team through identification of product options, performing objective screening of products to determine best fit, and building quantitative analysis to support the selection of product(s) to pursue.
  • Coordinating and leading User Acceptance Testing, prioritizing gaps and negotiating between the business and technical solution providers to gain product acceptance
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders to identify project objectives, scope, dependencies and risks for projects.
  • Leading business requirements elicitation interviews with customers
  • Conduct “Joint Application Development” (JAD) sessions with developers and stakeholders to drive discovery of potential BI solutions
  • Quickly understanding business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements, analyze and present solution options.
  • Collaborating with peers to develop a customized business analysis approach, defining the business analysis tasks, resources, and estimated effort to complete a project.
  • Managing changes to the solution requirements, assessing the impact of requirement changes, and ensuring appropriate approval of those changes.
  • Managing solution requirement communication, ensuring that stakeholders have a shared understanding of the requirements.
  • Leveraging and continually maturing interview and facilitation techniques to elicit business needs and requirements.
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.

What you will need to be successful in this role….

  • College degree or equivalent experience.
  • Passion for data and data- driven solutions
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum is required.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive business analysis experience in a Data Warehouse or Business Intelligence environment
  • Familiarity with Kimball-style requirements elicitation techniques
  • Demonstrated experience in Data Analysis, Data Mining and navigation of relational database models
  • Fluency with Business Analysis core techniques: modeling, use cases/user stories, facilitation.
  • Experience facilitating medium to large sessions with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Strong computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software applications
  • Self-motivated/independent/resourceful
