What General Accounting contributes to Cardinal Health
General Accounting is responsible for maintaining the financial books and records and preparing financial statements in accordance with accounting standards.

Provides leadership to managers and experienced professional staff may also manage front line supervisors
Manages an organizational budget
Develops and implements policies and procedures to achieve organizational goals
Assists in the development of functional strategy
Decisions have an extended impact on work processes, outcomes, and customers
Interacts with internal and/or external leaders, including senior management
Persuades others into agreement in sensitive situations while maintaining positive relationships
This role is one of three director roles with responsibility for the accounting for the Medical Segment including activities below
Consolidate month-end results for global manufacturing and distribution business units
Properly account for complex accounting within the business unit including purchase accounting, foreign exchange, inventory in-transit, profit in inventory, inventory reserves, intercompany and manufacturing variances
Responsible for US GAAP and statutory accounting for over 40 international legal entities within EMEA, LATAM and APAC
Manage relationship with outside professional firms to complete statutory compliance activities
Support external auditors and outside professional firms with statutory audits and financial statements
Support development of internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures over international accounting operation
Liaise with legal and tax teams for all international entities to ensure compliance
Highly proficient in identifying technical accounting issues
Able to research technical accounting guidance and compare and contrast alternative accounting conclusions
Experienced in writing technical accounting memos
Experienced in assessing customer contracts for the appropriate accounting treatment under Accounting Standard Codification (ASC) 605 – Revenue Recognition and ASC-606 Revenue from Contracts with Customers
Experienced in applying the principles of ASC 805 – Business Combinations
Experienced in assessing risk and designing controls in accordance with standards issued by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board
Able to navigate, present to, and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including communication of technical accounting matters to non-finance professionals
Experienced in assessing financial statement risk arising from the interrelationships of automated and semi-automated back office computer systems
Experienced in drafting, interpreting, and applying accounting policies
Able to apply concepts of risk and materiality in making complex judgments related to accounting estimates and accounting reserves
Have 5 or more years of public accounting experience, preferably in external audit
Able to build relationships both within and outside of his or her reporting chain in furtherance of the organization’s objectives
