What Tax contributes to Cardinal Health

Tax is responsible for the design, implementation and defense of tax strategies and positions. Records and reports tax expense in accordance with GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. Accountable for the tax due diligence of corporate transactions and preparation of tax compliance returns and reports.

  • Demonstrates knowledge in broad area of tax principles, planning strategies and concepts.
  • Develops and implements tax controversy strategies to address impact on all open years and impact on planned transactions.
  • Analyzes transactions for areas of tax risk and opportunities.
  • Demonstrates tax accounting knowledge of GAAP and SEC tax recording and reporting requirements.
  • Performs detailed tax research and analysis.
  • Develops approaches to detect, resolve and properly report issues and transactions on tax returns.
  • Partners with the business to improve tax efficiency of business planning and operations as well as tax compliance and reporting.

    Role Overview

    This role is primarily responsible for compliance support and services to the third party outsource provider for indirect taxes related to Cardinal Health business operations that occur within the United States (Domestic). Domestic indirect taxes include state and local sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, personal property tax and business licenses. This role also is primarily responsible for compliance support and services to the third party outsource providers for real estate taxes and unclaimed property reporting. Additionally, this role is responsible for M&A integration for Domestic indirect taxes, including real estate taxes and unclaimed property reporting. Lastly, this role is responsible for overseeing the timely filing of all annual reports and preparation of exemption certificates provided to Cardinal Health vendors on purchases of direct and indirect supplies, as needed and requested by Cardinal Health business segments. This role may be responsible for collaborating and delegating assignments to student interns as necessary.

    Accountabilities in this role

    • Ensure compliance support and services to the third party outsource provider for Domestic indirect taxes, including real estate taxes and unclaimed property reporting
    • Compliance support and services include data imports from Cardinal Health systems, manipulation and formatting of data, data reconciliation, budget/forecast preparation of Domestic indirect tax accruals for the Cardinal Health business segments, true-up and reconciliation of tax budgets with tax expenses for the Cardinal Health business segments, bank account review and/or reconciliation
    • Serve as primary point of contact with the third party outsource providers for Domestic indirect taxes, including real estate taxes and unclaimed property
    • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the third party outsource providers
    • Ensure all data required by the third party outsource providers needed to file all returns for Domestic indirect taxes, including real estate taxes and unclaimed property reporting is provided timely
    • Ensure timely responses to all requests from the third party outsource providers
    • Prepare all funding requests for Domestic indirect taxes, including real estate taxes and unclaimed property
    • Timely route all funding requests for internal approvals and submission to Cardinal Health Treasury to ensure timely funding of bank accounts with the third party outsource providers
    • Assist with M&A integration for Domestic indirect taxes, including real estate taxes and unclaimed property reporting, and help to ensure the compliance requirements for acquired companies are adequately budgeted for and transitioned to the third party outsource providers
    • Perform tax research related to indirect tax issues and products
    • Assist with the administration and resolution of customer disputes through collaboration with Advisor and Senior Analyst, Domestic Indirect Tax of Audit and Customer Disputes
    • Oversee and manage the timely filing annual reports for Cardinal Health
    • Oversee and manage the timely preparation and provision of exemption certificates to Cardinal Health vendors, as requested
    • Recommend and assist with implementation of process improvements
    • Prepare Commercial Activity Tax returns and application for Qualified Distribution Center exemption

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in business related field, or equivalent work experience
    • 2+ years experience in related field
    • 2+ years related tax experience; public accounting experience a plus
    • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner
    • Strong communication skills
    • Strong knowledge of indirect taxes and general accounting concepts
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work
    • Ability to meet deadlines
    • Experience with Excel, RIA Checkpoint and SAP systems required
