Vice President, Strategy and Business Development

The Vice President of Business Development contributes to the development and execution of core strategies and organic and inorganic growth initiatives within Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions, ensuring the business achieves its strategic and financial objectives.  In addition, the Vice President will maintain real-time awareness of market trends, competitive actions and fresh strategic partnerships, furthering segment and enterprise leadership’s knowledge of the market and its potential impact on the business.

The position will report to the President of Specialty Solutions.

Position Accountabilities

  • Serve as part of and collaborate with Specialty Solutions leadership team to understand the strategic direction and objectives of the organization and align on strategies in support of this direction 
  • Lead the on-going refresh of the business unit’s dynamic five year strategic road map
  • Excel in a matrixed management environment; communicate regularly with executive teams
  • Work with external advisors in the evaluation and execution of strategic opportunities
  • Proactively prospect for, develop and maintain a pipeline of strategic opportunities
  • Collaborate with a myriad of colleagues and external sources to identify potential partnership or acquisition candidates which support the broader organizational goals
  • Develop and manage long term relationships with identified opinion leaders and thought leaders to achieve scientific, educational and business goals
  • Be a resource in the process to assess/select new internal intellectual property to pursue
  • Provide briefs to enterprise and segment leadership on emergent competitors/technologies
  • Prepare presentation materials in support of recommendations to proceed with strategic opportunities Provide market analysis in support of decisions to pursue new product or service opportunities
  • Drive the initial financial and operational evaluation of the business development opportunities
  • Successfully lead negotiations that satisfy business objectives, creating win-win solutions for Cardinal Health and external partners
  • Expand Cardinal’s network of trusted advisors and information sources with respect to business development
  • Provide leadership to a member of Cardinal Health’s EMERGE Program

Position Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study and MBA required
  • 10+ years building successful partnerships and completing acquisitions
  • Solid financial acumen
  • Quick study of technical and scientific concepts
  • Ability to understand patents and intellectual property; experience reading, writing and negotiating licenses, partnership agreements and related legal documents
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex negotiating
  • Ability to communicate complex matters executive leadership teams
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective long-term relationships with PE firms, investment bankers and other external partners
  • Analytical and reasoning capabilities coupled with ability to perform in a fast paced, matrix environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication style that develops confidence among colleagues and also externally with potential customers
