What Server contributes to Cardinal Health

Server is responsible for designing, implementing, operating and maintaining the Cardinal Health server environment. This includes various operating systems and virtual and physical servers.

  • Gathers requirements, designs, and deploys  server-based solutions to meet business needs. This includes physical server deployment as well as allocation if virtual server capacity (internal and external).
  • Maintains existing server environments through proactive patching of firmware and operating systems.
  • Services clients in problem resolution and in processing service requests.
  • support for help desk for certain problem resolutions.
  • Requires working knowledge of server hardware, software and operating systems, platform configuration, virtual technologies, networking/distributed computing environments, and systems management tools.
  • Participates in scripting, process design, and automation for the administrative functions of the server team.
  • Manages capacity on physical and virtual server infrastructure.


  • Respond to engagement requests from business units needs
  • Develop and implement solutions to support other technology teams within Cardinal
  • Fully document all related activities associated with tier 3 escalations, service incidents, projects, or installation utilizing current tracking systems and databases.


  • Manage workload and balance with normal organizational process requirements; including change control and project documentation.
  • Point of escalation for Support Teams
  • Acquire and maintain expert knowledge of emerging server technologies, in order to affect support of the Cardinal Health environment.
  • Perform special projects or tasks in a timely manner, as assigned by Team leader or Management.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • VMWare ESX\VSphere Virtualization Technologies (ESX 5.5 or greater, Virtual Center, Site Recovery Manager, P2V tools, vSAN, vROps, vRealize Orchestrator)
  • HP ProLiant ML, DL, BL Series servers
  • HP Blade c7000 Enclosures
  • Storage and Backup understanding for large enterprise solutions
  • Microsoft PowerShell / PowerCLI or VB Scripting
  • Excellent research skills
  • Technical documentation skills
  • Working Understanding of SAN technology
  • Working Understanding of Networking technology


  • Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years experience in related field preferred
  • Applicable technical certifications preferred
