Senior Manufacturing Value Engineer

As a Senior Value Engineer, you may be based remotely in the continental US if you reside near an international airport due to travel up to 50%; the plant in Crystal Lake, Illinois, is the preferred location. You will research and validate components, processes, materials, and applications while sustaining current product designs. The engineer is responsible for driving and implementing process improvements, implementing changes that enhance performance or address quality issues, including determine root cause failure modes and implementing corrective actions. Production line down situations will be within scope. Driving and implementing cost savings initiatives is a key responsibility of this position.


What Manufacturing Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for developing manufacturing processes, production floor layouts and associated tools. Review new designs for manufacturability. Design process improvements to reduce product cost, process cycle time and improved product quality.


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in related field and technical aptitude required
  • A minimum of 2+ years related work experience required with successful demonstrated experience working in a multifaceted environment with internal and external customers in a technical support role.
  • Medical Device experience desired
  • Strong planning, organization, and leadership skills
  • Ability to balance customer, manufacturing and business requirements
  • Ability to work independently (self-directed)
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict through proactive action, and direct and timely communication
  • Attention to detail and experience to check behind the scenes to ensure surprises are minimized
  • Proven ability to partner cross functional organizations to successfully drive project implementations
  • Sets the standard for timeliness, work ethic, and personal integrity
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in MS office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 35-50%
  • Dynamic, positive attitude

  • These cross-functional project teams will include personnel from various groups within the organization and outside vendors/contract manufacturers
  • Multiple projects managed by this individual will represent significant business opportunities
  • These projects maybe global in both scale and scope, and have direct visibility to senior management
  • Work closely with R&D, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing team members to ensure that projects are delivered within scope, budget and schedule.
