Cost Accountant (Manufacturing)

SUMMARY OF POSITIONPrepare and communicate weekly and monthly results, maintain various tracking systems, perform account analyses and reconciliations, and assist in month end closing.


  • Drives business value by providing financial and analytical counsel to facilitate decision-marking around strategic business initiatives.
  • Prepares monthly financial reporting including variance and financial statement analysis. Able to clearly communicate business drivers behind financial data and potential implications on future results.
  • Participates in annual budget processes, incorporating business initiatives, economic trends and operational effectiveness. Gains alignment from business partners.
  • Identifies and executes upon process improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrates proficiency of technical tools and financial systems.
  • Will serve as primary or backup resource for either CIP/fixed asset tracking or inventory accounting which may include:

  • Maintains capital spend tracking and forecasting databases
  • Coordinates and tracks physical inventory of fixed assets
  • Performs inventory account analysis including reviewing and researching non-standard transactions
  • Validates and maintains tracking of cost reduction savings amounts.
  • Prepare and communicate weekly and monthly results (Plant Performance Reports).
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations.
  • May serve as primary or backup resource for either CIP/fixed asset tracking or inventory accounting. 

CIP/Fixed Assets

  • Maintain capital spend tracking and forecasting databases for Capital In Process (CIP).
  • Maintain fixed asset system including closeout of CIP accounts as well as maintenance of the fixed asset register.
  • RDSM processing
  • Coordinate and track physical inventory of fixed assets.


  • Validate cost reduction savings amounts and maintain tracking of the cost reduction tracking system.
  • Perform inventory account analyses including reviewing and researching non-standard transactions.
  • Track and expedite vendor return credits.

Cost / General accounting duties may include:

  • Major maintenance tracking
  • Standard cost updates
  • Perform variance analyses
  • Processing of general accounting activities such as vendor setup and maintenance, employee store, bank deposits, and Maximo invoice reconciliation.
  • Review and expedite items from the BPCS error maintenance report.
  • Track and report salvage activities.
  • Obtain and maintain records of approvals for cycle count adjustments and track monthly cycle count results.
  • Perform month-end closing duties.
  • Assist in annual budget cycle
  • Assist with physical inventories.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Cost Accounting Manager or the Plant Controller.
  • Observe all safety precautions and regulations at all times in all areas where duties are performed.  Responsible for reporting all safety hazards and potential unsafe working conditions.
  • Understand and comply with all current plant policies and procedures.

  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Normal working hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Must be willing to work alternate shifts and weekends, if needed.
  • Some travel required



Bachelor’s degree (accounting major a plus).


3-4 years experience with exposure to cost accounting within a manufacturing environment a plus.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Exposure to plant enterprise and financial systems.

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

Proficient in Excel.  Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.  Self-motivated.  Good analytical and problem solving skills.

Other Skills:

Must be able to speak, read and write the English language
