HR Business Partner

Cardinal Health Canada is currently seeking an HR Business Partner to join the team and support one of our major manufacturing sites in Gananoque, Ontario.

The incumbent supports all functional areas of the Human Resources Department including compensation and benefits, staffing and planning, recruiting, employee relations, training and development, and legal compliance.

The position will provide employee relations consultation, management training, benefits administration, recruiting and placement in support of overall strategic goals and objectives for Medical Supplies Gananoque Manufacturing facility. 


  • Observe all safety precautions and regulations at all times in all areas where duties are performed.  Responsible for reporting all safety hazards and potential unsafe working conditions.
  • Understand and comply with all current plant policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and provincial regulations concerning employment practices.
  • Work with HR Manager to ensure that plant employees are complying with all local, state and federal policies and practices and act as a liaison with employees and members of management with the interpretation of Company policies and procedures.
  • Investigate and follow up on concerns regarding violations to policies and procedures to include corporate Integrity Helpline calls.
  • Assist with all recruiting efforts including: all hourly and salary as needed.
  • Manage on site temporary employees.
  • Responsible for new hire orientation process and presentation of particular new hire orientation modules for all employees.
  • Coordinate soft skill training as identified by plant needs.
  • Manage and maintain various assessment tools used for recruiting and associate development.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental goals.
  • Assist in interpretation and implementation of the company policies for the facility.
  • Coordinate employee welfare and community relations activities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of rewards and recognition programs.
  • Manage facility vending services by working with the appropriate vendor(s) in order to remedy concerns based on customer feedback. 
  • Assist the HR Manager in the development, implementation and oversight of the performance and talent management systems at the facility.
  • Assist HR Manager in all major HR activities.
  • Oversee all functional, operational and troubleshooting aspects of the Workday system.  Conduct in-house training for management and employees to use Workday.
  • Monthly HR reports and KPI metrics tracking
  • Assist HR Manager in implementing Corporate projects and HR Process improvements projects.
  • Participate in facility meetings to include: plant manager small group discussions (skip level meetings), supervisor meetings, and other meetings related to the voice of the customer. 
  • Assist in SOX compliance
  • Assist in the implementation and execution of plant safety activities.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the HR Manager.
  • Act as a back-up for the HR Manager as and when required.



 Bachelors Degree from a four-year accredited college or university. Business or HR-related degree or CHRP preferred.


Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in an HR generalist position in Manufacturing or plant support.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Employment Laws, OHSA regulations, Workers Compensation Law, Benefits Administration.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer skills in Workday, Access, Word, Excel and Power Point. 
  • Must be able to speak, read and write the English language.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal/leadership skills and be able to interface with all departments and associate levels.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, setting own priorities as well as directing those of others.
  • Must have the flexibility to accept new duties as assigned by Human Resources Manager 


  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, i.e. days, nights, weekends.
  • Ability to work on multiple, changing priorities.
  • Ability to direct activities of others.
  • Some travel required.
